i already gave up trying to have things the colour i want it
i've spent more on black dyes than in my 15k bonelace and never got it REAL black.. it always turned out kinda weird grey thing

IMHO the chaos axe should be really chaotic not simply opposite color cos its rly predictable...

/signed to doing something about the dyes and how they work. Dye remover should be like a bleach and remove all color pigments making the item white. The dyes are then applied and the color dye used actually shows up. To make a darker color you mix the color dye with black just like real life and the ability to get different shades. I mixed 2 red with 1 black, because the red alone was too pinkish and the 1 red and 1 black was too dark, and got mixed dye that, when applied, turned out to look the same as if I used just one red. What a waste of money buying the black and other red. Applying multiple coats of the same color would give a deeper more rich outcome of that color to the point where (after 4 or 5) the color can't get anymore rich. If you have a piece of armor that is blue and you apply red then the piece of armor should turn purple, the red shouldn't replace the existing color. To replace the color, dye remover should be used before applying the new color. As for mixing, the last I checked, 500ml combined with 500ml gives you 1L not 500ml. One dye plus one dye should yeild 2 mix dyes.

A preview at the dye trader would be nice too. Nothing fancy just when you talk to her you chose the piece of armor you want to see dyed and select the dye(s) then press the preview button to see the outcome and price. Then you can either hit accept to make the changes or decline to go back and try different colors. The change in color would only exist in the preview mode unless you press accept then it's perminant. Allowing others to see the preview if they look your way would be good too. Can you picture entering a town, head for the dye trader and see a dozen people standing around her changing colors like the northern lights.

Dye is used to change the colors of fabrics including wood and skin not metal. To change the color of metal portions of your armor then you should be able to do so at the armor crafter and see the weapon crafter for the metal portions of your weapon. Weapons like the storm bows and chaos axes are unique. The storm bow is the color of an electric arc and has what looks like electricity flowing all around it and therefore shouldn't be able to change color. The chaos axe looks like it too is made up of energy and therefore shouldn't be able to change in color however it could drop as a different color at random. They could make it so those weapons can have their color change but it would require seeing a weapon crafter in the FoW. The eternal bow is the color of ecto and shouldn't be able to change color (not by conventional means) and may be done but require seeing a weapon crafter in the UW.

Why do people have to flame players simply for suggestions? I think its really immature and makes me not even want to post on these forums. Grow up and let people state their own opinions.

Yeah, shame on you Snoop and Murder. VitisVinifera happens to be 100% right. Dye is screwed up, so why shouldn't they fix it? Just because they "made it that way"? What the hell kind of sense does that make?

Pfft...grow up.

I agree. I hate that the colors of dyes don't usually come out how they're sopposed to, especially mixed dyes. Normal color mixing doesn't work either. They may mix to the color it should look like, but once it's on armour, it's totally different. I had a pink once that turned brown on armour, a blue mix that turned orange, and a green mix that turned purple. It's annoying how these colors don't work..

It'd also be great if red dye didn't turn 90% of armors pink, and if you could dye each area of an armor seperately, rather than not being able to die most of it at all. Also, while it isn't real important, I think you should be able to choose silver and black for starter armor and pvp armor.

I don't think they should change anything. They should add something like the PvP character creation that shows what dye mixes you need for your armor. That would be 300X more useful...although it kills the money sink somewhat.

I never thought of dye as being a real money sink. For as often as I dye my armor (read: "once, ever") I have collected and kept at least 20 of every color except black of which I only have found three. At a cost of 150 or so for every color except silver or black, you could buy 20 dyes for 3K. Not much of a sink, and if you've got any sort of idea of what you want to get from your dye mixing it's doubtful you'll spend more than that. Even if you want to sit there and mix together 40 dyes instead of finding a dye chart, you're not going to break the bank.

The biggest problem I think though is when you dye something a single color, say red, and it turns blue. That's just broken. That's not a money sink, it's poor design. Scar patterns are especially horrible for this. Dyes really do need a good fixing, but barring that, any kind of preview palatte would suffice. Anything to avoid the rude surprises that dyes are prone to delivering.

Get rid of all dyes in the game, but keep dying as a money sink (even more so) by making each piece of armor cost 4k to dye. That opens up a color wheel at the Dye Trader and you move it around until you find the color you like (don't forget to write down the values he gives you!). There, no more guess work.

I've been told that quild wiki has a chart for these strange dye problems. Maybe you should look there.

Default Quantity After Mixing Dye

What I don't understand is why when you mix two vials of dye you only get one vial of the new color instead of two. Imho you should still have the same quantity when you are done mixing instead of just losing half of it.

Though the only colour I ever use is silver on everything. And I too have at least 20 of each colour except black, of which I have only 3.

Frankly not an issue I care much about - but....This isn't always the case. I dyed my 15k mesmer armor and got a dark/silvery/teal color. It looks cool so I kept it.

Sorry - no idea how to describe it and now screen shots handy. Anyway - Its not black. People ask me in towns all the time what recipe I used for the color. Its just black.

thanks for all the /signed everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one frustrated with this arbitrarily introduced complexity to something that should be as straight forward to red=red/black=black, etc.

And more thanks for ppl who had alternative ideas on how to acheive this.

And more more thanks for ppl who weren't cool with the flaming that happened early on in this thread.

Now just hope this gets the right person's attention.

Wow, that has to be the most retarded comment I've ever seen, especially in a forum designed for suggestions on how to change the game from the way Anet originally made it. I love this suggestion, seems like whenever I dye mesmer armor it comes out all screwy. Also the 2 dyes = 2 dyes thing is a good idea imo. If you mix 2 full vials of dye you should get 2 full vials of a mixed color... its not like it all evaporates or something. Great idea.

I dyed my collectors monk armor black and got pale grey

and I thought they did fix this, when I was rolling my nec for pvp the other day, it took green dye to make my face scar green, instead of the usual blue. Maybe thats the only thing they changed.
